The Frenchman stands at the top of the podium as the most supported artist in the industry according to the 1001Tracklists list, followed by Anyma and Meduza. Crusy is the only Spanish contribution with a magnificent 31st place
Like every year, October is time for tops and yesterday one of the most important was known and which many artists think is the most true of what is happening in the industry: the Top 101 Producers 2023 by 1001Tracklists. This is because, as you well know (and if not, we will explain it to you), this top is made up of statistical data and not votes, collecting the support that each producer has received with their songs throughout the year according to the information collected by this website.
Electronic music events in Madrid this weekend
Although the top is “objective”, it has always received criticism for not covering the wide range of genres that the industry has, since the users who upload the tracklists to the web focus above all on the most house and mainstream sounds, leaving aside other sounds. That is why since last year they have also brought together several prominent names in another section called ‘Future Of Dance’with much more variety of genders and more equality between men and women.
Despite this, it is always a good reflection of where part of the scene is currently located and the names that appear are worthy of being there. As it is David Guetta this year, winning for the third time (second consecutive) this award. The year of the Frenchman has been spectacular at a mainstream level, especially with ‘I’m Good (Blue)’which has not stopped playing since August 2022. Second place goes to the Italian Anyma. The boss of Afterlife He has been one of the most prominent producers with his album ‘Genesys’ and authentic hits like ‘The Sign’ either ‘Eternity’. Completing the podium is Medusaanother of the regulars in this top that rises 43 places.
Speaking of rises, we must also mention the brilliant entries that this top has had such as that of Mau P, which slips directly into the top 5 in its first year on this list. There are also great artists who were outside the top and have returned with great force like Steve Angello, Skrillex, Sebastian Ingrosso either Dom Dolla: top 7, 8, 15 and 17 respectively. Regarding female representation we only find Blond:ish in position 84 and representing our country, only Crusy in a very creditable 31st place, rising 16 positions and placing itself no more and no less than between FISHER and Axwell.
Some conclusions that we can draw from this top are that despite not being in their most lucid period, the artists who were the face of EDM a few years ago continue to have great weight in the current panorama. That’s why we can see Dimitri Vegas either Steve Aoki high on the list. That and the mainstage techno, with the presence of Hardwell in the top 10 and a maddix which has risen a total of 52 positions to be placed in 11th place. Along with this, it is noted that the house – tech house sound is the clear predominant one on this list, with permission from genres also present such as melodic techno or trance.
We leave you the complete top below so you can take a look and draw your own conclusions. What artists would be missing? Which ones shouldn’t be there? We know that there are many genres not represented in this top and that it can generate discord. But that’s what lists are for, to generate a healthy debate in addition to recognizing the merit of artists who have had a great year like many of those present here.
