The Reggaetón singer who decided to say goodbye to the stage has taken a radical turn in his life and his beliefs. Daddy Yankee recognizes that he is closer to God than to music.
“My people, this day for me is the most important day of my life. And I want to share them with you, because living a life of success is not the same as living a life with purpose,” Daddy Yankee began by saying in an almost three-minute message, after concluding a concert at the Puerto Rico Coliseum, in San Juan; all within the framework of his farewell tour.
“For a long time I tried to fill a void in my life that no one could fill. I was trying to fill in and find meaning in my life. Sometimes I appeared to be very happy, but something was missing to make me complete. And I have to confess that those days are over,” the artist continued, commenting that he gave himself to Christ.
Daddy Yankee once said that his approach to religion began at the age of 17, when he received a bullet in the leg that kept him in bed for more than a year and left him with a slight disability.
Fans were surprised, but many supported this life change. Yankee’s conversion was also marked by the reconciliation of his ‘musical adversary’, Don Omar, with whom he made acquaintances. “Today we close the book that kept the best chapters of our controversial rivalry. Thank you for your words and for listening to mine that came from the heart too. I wish you the best for you and your family,” Don Omar wrote to Yankee.
With all this context, Daddy Yankee’s recent message to his fans draws attention, in which he asked his followers to distance themselves from evil, seek peace and do good through passages from the Bible. “If you are seeing this it is because there is life and there is hope,” commented the singer, who also read the Bible.
