Boardmasters 2024 was filled to the brim with incredible music but there were 5 performances that really stood out for us!

Boardmasters 2024 has now passed but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped thinking about all the incredible music that was on offer. Across the weekend we were treated to epic sets that spanned the genres and gave us the opportunity to see some of the world’s best music, right here in Cornwall. Although it is never easy to categorize the performances numerically (there really was so much on offer) we’ve tried our best, so, here are our 5 best performances from Boardmasters 2024.

English Teacher

English Teacher performed what was a skin tingling performance at their Land Of Saints set which saw the Mercury Prize Nominees demonstrate why they’ve been nominated. Lily Fontaine’s vocals were incredibly strong, leaving an impression on every listener in the audience. Many may not know it, but they just witnessed the next big thing and in 2025 they’ll be heading for the main stages. English Teacher are truly one of the greatest new bands to exist and to have witnessed this performance was a true privilege.

Wunderhorse

The fast rising rock outfit, who only last year played the smaller (only just these days) Land Of Saints stage found themselves on the mainstage of Boardmasters for 2024. The band brought their unphased coolness to this stage, putting on a show that was shock full with grunge rock n roll attitude. Playing all the fan favorites from their critically acclaimed debut release ‘Cub’as well as a few new ones from the upcoming ‘Midas’. Wunderhorse are a relatively new band but their climb to the top has been fantastic to watch and performances such as this one is but evidence to as why they’re so popular.

Stormzy

It was always expected that Stormzy was going to be one of, if not the best performance of the entire festival. The rapper is known for his high octane, intense, and visually impressive live shows as well as a litany of hits that fans were ready to scream back at him. Stormzy brought everything he had to the Boardmasters set with one of the most energetic performances that I have personally witnessed. I have treated fans to a collection of songs new and old, from ‘Vossi Bop’through to the new ‘Backbone’ (made with Chase & Status). Stormzy‘s Saturday headline set will forever go down in Boardmasters history as one of the greatest performances graced on their main stage.

Soft Play

We first witnessed Soft Play (then known as Slaves) headline the Land Of Saints stage back in 2017 and it is still to this day, one of the greatest shows we’ve ever witnessed. Now, the band returned with a new name, new music, and took the afternoon slot on the mainstage. Running out to Vengaboys ‘We Like To Party’ the duo took no time in busting into their recent comeback single ‘Punk’s Dead’a wall of sound came cascading towards the crowd and in response they lost their ever loving shit. It was a much needed punk/rock respite that cemented why bands are so important to festivals. All these years on, Soft Play are still one of the greatest live acts to exist in the UK and it is great to see them dominating larger stages.

The Bitchos

We’ve been DYING to catch The Bitchos live for a long time now so to be have been able to do this in Cornwall was nothing short of a treat. The cumbian/indie outfit played through their hip-swinging, head-bopping, electrifying set to the adoration of those witnessing. It was a delightful display of musicianship that spanned the bands ever growing discography, including recent release ‘The Bomb’. It was a shame that the band were on so early, as they had played later, they would have had a massive tent absolutely JUMPING. However, it was great to see them live at last and the turnout was pretty decent.
