Celia Cruz’s legacy is still very present and one of the places where they remember her is in Callao.

The Provincial Municipality of Callao paid an emotional and massive tribute to Celia Cruzcommemorating the centenary of his birth. The event marked the first official tax in Latin America for the 100 years of the legendary Cuban singer, icon of Latin music.

The ceremony was held in the emblematic José Gálvez square of the Historic Center of Callao, where a colorful mural was unveiled in honor of the ‘Guarachera de Cuba’.

The activity brought together artists, neighbors, musicians, representatives of the cultural sector and visitors, who congregated to celebrate the legacy of a figure that transcended generations and borders. On behalf of Mayor Pedro Spadaro, the deputy mayor of the CallaoCésar Pérez.

The act was attended by Omer Pardillo-Cid, president of the Celia Cruz Foundation and only executor of the singer’s artistic legacy. He arrived from the United States to deliver to the Chalaca commune a historical garment: the original dress that Celia Cruz He looked in 1998 during his remembered concert at Madison Square Garden in New York, along with the Fania All Stars. This piece will be part of the future salsa museum of the Callao.

The ceremony culminated with a musical show by the K’llao Salsa and Bronx All Star orchestras, which interpreted the great hits of the Cuban singer.
