He also pointed out, as he did on his social networks during the political campaign period, that it is necessary to have a qualified majority in the Legislative Assembly, with a pro-government majority, to continue with the emergency regime measure, implemented by his Government to combat the gangs.

This regime has been implemented since March 2022 and has become the main and only action of the Executive against gangs, despite allegations that it violates human rights.

“Go to the voting centers,” he said. and reminded citizens that they can vote with a valid and expired single identity document, and stressed that “they will go in total security.”

“Let’s all do our part (…) it is a citizen’s duty to go vote and express, in the vote, what path they want for El Salvador,” he said.

And he added: “I call on you, let’s go out and vote.”

This is the third time that Bukele He holds a press conference in the middle of election day, as he did during the 2021 and 2019 elections.

Bukele42 years old, is the great favorite in these elections in which five candidates from opposition parties also compete, among them from the historic Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena, right) and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN, left), practically without chances of victory, according to the polls.

He is the first president of the democratic stage of El Salvador with the option of seeking immediate re-election and, if he wins, he would be the first to repeat the position despite the fact that the Constitution does not allow it.
