The mission of the UN in the south of Lebanon (FINUL) reported this Saturday that one of its soldiers was injured “by gunshots” at its headquarters in Naqoura (south), bringing to five the number of blue helmets injured in incidents in three days, attributed to Israel.
In a statement on her X account, the FINUL said that the new incident occurred on Friday night when “a peacekeeper soldier who was at the headquarters in Naqoura “He was hit by gunfire due to the military activity that was taking place in the vicinity.”
He explained that the injured blue helmet, whose nationality he did not specify, “He underwent surgery at our hospital in Naqoura to extract the bullet and he is currently stable,” and stressed that “we still do not know the origin of the fire.”
The note also pointed out that the buildings of the FINUL in the southern Lebanese town of Ramyah they also suffered “significant damage due to nearby bombing explosions.”
“We remind all actors of their obligations to guarantee the safety of the personnel and facilities of the United Nationsincluding avoiding combat activities near military positions. FINUL”, he reiterated.
The blue helmets are in the Lebanon in accordance with resolution 1701 of the Security Council of the UNwhich ended the 2006 war between Lebanon and Israel.
In recent days, the FINUL reported that four of its soldiers were injured in similar incidents, attributed to Israelwhose Army is in conflict on the border with the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah since a year ago.
For three weeks Israel carries out an intense bombing campaign against the south and east of the Lebanonas well as Beirut, which caused the death of most of the more than 2,200 people who lost their lives in Lebanon from October 2023.
