In the last year, the songs of the Colombian Shakira have raised dust in public opinion, after constantly throwing hints at her ex-partner Gerard Piqué. Furthermore, the singer has shown how chameleonic she is, just as she has done throughout her career, in which she has performed ballads, pop, reggaeton and even regional Mexican music, a genre in which she recently ventured with the premiere of her song “El boss” together with Fuerza Regida.
Just as she has had many admirers and people who applaud her lyrics, she also has detractors who disagree with her work, as is the case of the Puerto Rican singer Baby Rasta, who criticized her in an interview for recording songs of the urban genre, which he considered which is not appropriate for Barranquilla. It was a few days ago when the conversation she had with Chente Ydrach came to light, in which he alleged that Shak had no right to sing reggaeton.
When talking about the artists who are currently doing reggaeton, he rejected that everyone now “sings” it and profits from it, regardless of whether they have experience or street, where he claims the genre was born. “Many people may hate the street, but the street adopted this first. He drove her down the street first. We were the street artists. Not now. Now it’s commercial, now even Shakira does reggaeton.”
But the Colombian was not the only one splashed, and the reggaeton player also threw his compatriot Ricky Martin, rejecting that he did not have the street experience to sing this genre either. “It is a lack of respect because first of all Ricky Martin does it because he is one of us and, with everything and that, Ricky Martin sees the process of how the reggaeton genre grew and he has not even dared to do it,” he said.
Internet users did not stop with that and began to defend the singer, who became famous with the duo Baby Rasta & Gringonacido in 1994. “They think they own reggaeton,” “That’s why the genre grew, because he was together with artists like Shakira”, “Shakira was the one who promoted collaborations between artists”, “She can sing whatever she wants”, “One song of hers earned more than all of his music”, “Who is that man”, some users responded.
