Darkness and despair are a breeding ground for creativity in the right hands. Since its creation in 2017, the Atlanta band ALLUVIAL has embraced the sadness and melancholy that the world has to offer through an intricately balanced mix of fast polyrhythms, haunting, sludgy atmospheres and tight grooves. The band attempts to create an even more sinister sound than their previous album, «Sarcoma«, «Death Is But a Door«.

«We wrote about 13 or 14 songs this summer, but we wanted to make this EP between ‘Sarcoma‘ and our next album. These songs fit the vibe we want to follow. We’ll always find a way to get darker from album to album, the same way ‘South of Heaven‘was heavier than’Reign In Blood‘ and ‘Seasons In The Abyss‘was heavier than’South Of Heaven‘”, says Hauch. “It was that concept of chasing the dragon to find a way to overcome the message and vibes of the last record and at the same time finding a way to do it that got us excited.”

After releasing his instrumental debut, «The Deep Longing for Annihilation«, the band hit the road. Although the album has amassed millions of streams, there was always the intention to add a vocalist to their subsequent releases. Hauch had begun writing what would become “Sarcoma» in 2018 and recruited Mullerknowing his vocal prowess from the vocalist’s time in Suffocation.

The incorporation of Muller It immediately elevated the band’s sound, but “Death Is But a Door» shows the synergy the band has developed working as a cohesive unit over the past few years.

Although the band’s mission is to delve into darker and heavier territories with each new release, they manage to balance their sound. Although still based on death metal, the band explores all its influences. From traditional thrash, like Panther either Metallicaeven the darkest grunge, like Alice in Chains either soundgardenand everything in between, ALLUVIAL aims to keep listeners in suspense by going beyond death metal.

«I wanted to have a band where we could write meaningful but action-packed songs. Something that is scary but heartbreaking at the same time. “I think we will always pursue that, but we want to find new ways to be heavy,” he says. Hauch.

With the band members as entrenched in the death metal scene as they are – with members having previously played in The Faceless, Suffocation and more – listeners can be sure to encounter plenty of brutality throughout his music. The twists and turns in clean passages, atmospheric ambience, or any of the other musical avenues explored throughout the music of ALLUVIAL They push them to the limit and invite listeners to return and find something previously undiscovered.
