Two people were killed and 14 others were injured in an explosion that occurred on a bus in a Shiite neighborhood of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistanwhose majority of the population is Sunni, the police said.
A few hours after the explosion occurred, the fundamentalist organization Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for that attack.
Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadransaid the explosion occurred in a neighborhood of Dasht-e-Barchi, an enclave of the historically oppressed Shiite Hazara Muslim community.
“Unfortunately, according to initial reports, two civilians on board the bus were killed and 14 others were injured and hospitalized,” Zadran said in a statement.

Seven people had already been killed in November in another explosion on a bus in Dasht-e-Barchi, an attack also claimed by IS, which considers Shiites as heretics.
Attacks have decreased significantly in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power in Kabul in August 2021 and ousted the previous US-backed government.
Despite this, some armed groups, including a regional branch of IS, continue to carry out attacks.
