It is no secret that Bad Bunny’s influence has impacted various areas of society such as fashion, cinema and, more recently, education. And despite the criticism of the artist’s work, it has recently become the central topic of a music and gender workshop thanks to his song “Andrea.”

In accordance with an invitation made by the Autonomous University of Coahuila, Mexico, through the Office of the Ombudsman of University Human Rights (DDHU), a call was revealed to participate in the Music and Human Rights Workshop: “Let’s hear about gender”, where the theme of the “Bad Rabbit” will be analyzed.

As revealed by the same educational institution, the composition of the Puerto Rican actor, which is part of his successful album “Un Verano Sin Ti”, has the objective of creating a space for reflection and dialogue on issues related to gender.

What is the Bad Bunny song about?

Released in 2022, as part of the collaboration between the “Mónaco” singer and the group Buscabulla, made up of Raquel Berrios and Luis Alfredo del Valle, “Andrea” achieved great recognition due to the topic it addresses: violence against women and men. thousands of femicides that occur daily in Latin America.

Although the singer himself has not confirmed that his song has a special dedication, the content of the song logically reveals that it is the story of Andrea Ruiz, a 35-year-old Puerto Rican woman who lost her life in 2021 because of her husband.

According to police reports, Ruiz ended a romantic relationship, lasting about 8 years, with a security agent. Given this situation, the officer, named Miguel Ocasio, harassed and threatened Andrea to get him to return to her.

Faced with this situation, Andrea asked for help from the Puerto Rican government, who denied her protection due to lack of evidence. A few days after the Caribbean court’s ruling, Andrea’s body was found burned in a trash can on the road.

After Ruiz’s body was found, Ocasio was arrested and found guilty. However, just three months later, the murderer committed suicide in prison.

Following Andrea’s unfortunate death, Bad Bunny alludes to crime in his song with phrases such as “give her respect and never take it away” and “as if being a woman were a sin,” among others.

According to the publication of the Mexican university, all those interested in participating in the workshop must previously watch the video of “Andrea.” Likewise, they must register through email [email protected]. The workshop will take place on Thursday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
