The Executive Board of International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved this Monday the second review of the agreement signed with Ukrainea decision that frees up a transfer of 900 million dollars for kyiv.
This disbursement is part of the Expanded Fund Service Agreement (EFF, in English), a 48-month package signed with Ukraine last March for a total value of 15.6 billion dollars.
“Despite the war Russia In Ukraine, macroeconomic indicators have been stronger than expected, contributing to the upward revision of growth prospects”, noted the Fund in a statement.
“Economic resilience has resulted in improved growth conditions, continued strong disinflation and a stable currency market”he added.
The Fund has raised the GDP growth forecast for 2023 to 4.5%, while for 2024 it considers it to be between 3% and 4%.
The new disbursement arrives the same day that the director of the Fund, Kristalina Georgievareceived the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyat the organization’s headquarters in Washington for a meeting in which he reaffirmed his commitment to Kyiv.
“We talked about the remarkable resilience of the people of Ukraine despite the enormous cost of the war. The economy is performing strongly“Georgieva said in a statement.
The director of the Fund also said that “With much-needed support from the international community, Ukraine has been able to implement and sustain sound economic policies”.
“As has repeatedly been pointed out by the IMFtimely and predictable external financing is essential to sustain hard-won economic achievements”he added.
Zelensky arrived in Washington this Monday after participating on Sunday in Buenos Aires at the inauguration of the new Argentine president, Javier Milei.

In the US capital, in addition to his meeting with Georgieva, he participated in a conference with the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austinin which he asked for more help from the United States to confront the Russian invasion.
This Tuesday, Zelensky is scheduled to meet with the president of the United States, Joe Bidenas well as with the president of the House of Representativesthe republican Michael Johnson.
The US Congress has been negotiating the proposal for the White House to approve more than $60 billion in military aid for Ukraine, but Republicans have blocked it.
