A total of 356,513 troops of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) are deployed from this Wednesday in Venezuela to guard the non-binding referendum of December 3, with which the Government seeks to strengthen its defense in the dispute with Guyana for a territory of almost 160,000 square kilometers.
The president of National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amorosoled the public act of activating the so-called ‘Republic Plan‘, in Caracaswhich was attended by the Ministers of the Interior and Defense, Remigio Ceballos and Vladimir Padrinorespectively, among other authorities.

Amoroso explained that 139,227 people will work in the consultation, of which 60% are citizens chosen as polling station members, without any payment, plus 55,000 workers who will operate as “technical staff”.
CeballosFor his part, he highlighted the support “unpublished” that will provide 51,778 agents of all police bodies, together with the FANBin preserving order and security within voting centers, a task that until now had been entrusted exclusively to the military.
Furthermore, the attorney general, Tarek William Saabindicated that they will activate a telephone line to respond to complaints from citizens and that nearly 1,200 prosecutors will monitor the development of the day to act against “any attempt at sabotage that may be made against this great event.”
The Government assured this week that it has taken precautions against “potential sabotage plans”especially interruption of electrical service, for December 3.
Although the referendum does not in itself represent a change in the disputed area, the Government of the president Nicolas Maduro believes that, with this mechanism, the people of Venezuela “He is not going to let them take advantage” of a territory that “belongs”.
Venezuelans will answer five questions in the consultation, promoted by the National Assembly (Parliament), among them the possibility of creating a region to annex the disputed area, rich in mineral resources.
