While NASCAR has historically been associated with country music, there have been a few crossovers between the sport and nu metal. Whether it’s the compilation album (NASCAR On FOX) Crank It Up featuring Slipknot, Static-X, (hed)pe, Nonpoint, and Staind or “Click Click Boom” by Saliva playing during the final race of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobbynu metal has carved out its own spot in NASCAR. Just this year, Jonathan Davis of Korn was the Grand Marshal of the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in promotion of the Sick New World festival that was to take place the following month. The October iteration of the festival is to be held at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas and while the Texas race for the year has already passed, it would be cool to get a few NASCAR icons to promote the festival.
One contender who could fulfill that duty is that of Dale Earnhardt Jr. He is one of the most popular NASCAR drivers of all time, and he has not been shy about his love for rock and alternative music. He mentioned in his book that he wrote following his rookie year in the sport in 2000 that he loved Our Lady Peace. Dale Jr. even drove a car that was sponsored by Staind at the Chevy Rock’n’Roll 400 at Richmond Raceway in 2003.
On the most recent episode of his podcast, The Dale Jr. Downloadthe former driver was shown sporting a Limp Bizkit shirt. The social media page shared a photo with the caption quoting the chorus of the anthemic “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)”. Then a clip was shared of Dale Jr. explaining how the margaritas he had consumed influenced his decision to purchase the shirt online shortly after. Fans in the comments are now calling for Dale Jr. to have Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst make an appearance on the podcast.

Now I want to see a compilation video of Dale Jr. moments on the racetrack with “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” playing on top of it. Another Bizkit song, “Livin’ It Up”, would also make for a great NASCAR edit due to the chorus “I’m just a crazy motherfucker livin’ it up / Not giving a fuck, livin’ life in the fast lane.”
Dale Jr. also has a playlist of his favorite music, a mix of different genres, but yes, nu metal does have some representation. Bands such as Staind, Our Lady Peace, Chevelle, Incubus, 10 Years, Nonpoint, Linkin Park, Alien Ant Farm, Primus, and Hoobastank are featured on it.
