He Pope Leo XIV This Friday he joined the duel for the fire victims of a bar in the Swiss town of Crans Montana last New Year’s Eve, in which more than forty people have died and 115 have been injured.
The Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, has sent on behalf of the pontiff a telegram of condolences for the victims of the fire to the bishop of the diocese of Sion, Monsignor Jean-Marie Lovey, the Holy See reported today.
“After learning of the tragic fire that occurred in Crans Montana on the night of January 1, which claimed more than forty lives and left many injured, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV joins the mourning of the families and the entire Swiss Confederation. He wishes to express his compassion and concern for the families of the victims,” the telegram states.
The pope “prays that the Lord welcomes the deceased into his abode of peace and light, and that he sustains the spirit of those who suffer in their hearts or in their bodies. May the Mother of God, in her tenderness, bring the consolation of faith to all those affected by this tragedy and keep them in hope,” the pontiff’s message concludes.
