It is no mystery to anyone that the urban genre has constantly been linked to excess. From falling into the consumption of illicit substances or heading down somewhat dangerous paths, different artists have always been fighting to stay in a ‘straight line’ and thus continue with their successful careers.

However, there are other singers who succumbed along the way and money and fame ended up dragging them into a life full of chaos. But just as the phrase says: “there is no evil that does not come for good”, they have known how to stay afloat, with faith and Christianity being their lifeline, turning 180° and dedicating their lives to religion.

That is why, today we leave you a list of 5 artists who decided to express their faith and get away from all the darkness they had to face due to the excesses of fame.

Hector ‘El Father’

Gone was his rougher and more ‘malianteo’ side next to the ‘Combo of the 70s’. It was not expected that Héctor was going to be on this list, since he was one of the first great exponents of the genre, to abruptly cut his career short in order to be able to dedicate himself 100% to preaching the gospel as a Christian Minister.

The reputation that ‘El Father’ had earned and the dangers he ran due to the influence that the street had on the street, made him choose to correct his life after being present in a crossfire. An event that marked him forever and, today, he seems very happy with his family.

“I think that when you look at reggaeton, of the five people that you thought were not going to convert to Christ, they were Julio and me. At one point we were threatened by mv3rt3, we couldn’t see each other and, nevertheless, God looked at us. “What Satan wanted to destroy at one time, God united to give life to others through the word,” he stated.

Tito El Bambino”

‘El Patrón’ began his career in reggaeton alongside Héctor when he was very young, so the excesses did not stop appearing when he was just a teenager. Although ‘Father’ little by little earned a name of ‘terror’ in Puerto Rico, at first ‘El Bambino’ was the one who drove the most ‘street’.

However, being a father at a very young age made him change his life completely. Little Jeinaliz, the result of his first marriage, was the driving force behind him getting out of the shadows and after that she was a hallmark for saying in each of his “God bless you” themes.

Efraín David Fines Nevare, real name of Tito, prays, praises and preaches the word of God on social networks. Even during a live broadcast in January 2022, the singer could not hold back his tears when he was talking about topics related to his faith.

Vico C

The ‘Philosopher’ had to fight for many years with his addictions, mainly with his excesses of illicit substances such as heroin. That is why his lyrics are constantly plagued with regret and deep melancholy, although, of course, there are also others that have made his faithful followers dance to the floor.

The truth is that his time in prison and fighting for almost a decade with his ‘demons’ made his repentance lead him to Christianity.

In an interview, the pioneer of Hip Hop in Puerto Rico assured that almost all of his songs are Christian, since when talking about love or forgiveness, that is linked to Christianity, and should not necessarily have words like “Hallelujah” or “Christ”.

“You have to make an effort, but when you have faith you can do it. Faith is not a blind thing, faith is believing in God’s promises, because one thing is believing in God and another thing is believing God,” he highlighted in 2014, prior to his presentation at the ‘Festival of Life. ‘.

Julius Volt

It is no coincidence that the close circle of Héctor the ‘Father’ has chosen to approach Christianity, since at the beginning of the year 2000 they were very dangerous figures in Puerto Rico. One of them is Julio Irving Ramos Filomeno, better known as ‘Julio Volvio’.

This singer, remembered for his different collaborations, converted to Christianity in 2014 and according to his own words “every day he entrusts himself to God.”

“I’m not ready for this anymore, Christ has called me so many times and I feel like this could be the last. I always behaved badly, my backpack was full of sins, but that’s over now. Yes, I really accepted Christ as my savior, I really did because sometimes you have a void in your heart,” he expressed in the radio interview,” said the Puerto Rican.

Incidentally, Héctor ‘El Father’ and Julio Voltio share a Christian radio program and participated in the evangelical tour “From the stage to the altar.”

Farruko

One of the most recent celebrities of the urban genre, who chose to change his life to the world of Christianity, was ‘Farru’, who at the beginning of 2022, revealed in a concert that his life would have a complete turn by pointing out that, despite the success , had hit rock bottom.

“Today I can say that yes, that I achieved it, that I am doing well, that I have achieved many things, I have all the success in the world materially. I had the number one song last year (‘Pepas’) thank God, but I tell you something, I cried at night, I felt empty at night, I was number one, having the best cars, having everything, I couldn’t see my children,” he highlighted in February of last year.

The ‘Pepas’ singer surprised the world with this statement, and even reiterated that he regretted some of the lyrics of his most successful songs, as he claims that the message he was sending to young people was the wrong one.

And what do you think of these radical changes? Do you want another list of artists in the genre who made this change?
