This is not light salad!

This is salsa, memory and rumba!

After 12 years of dancing and playing the “melody”, as our colleagues Víctor Sánchez and César Pagano say, with an ear and a critical sense of course, taking to the streets, occupying both clubs and palaces, art centers, trenches, festivals, patron saint festivals, concert halls, squat centers, self-organized spaces, demonstrations and even museums; After playing between two and five times a month, you start to do the math. We are close to reaching 500 celebrations of that rebellious and painful condition that is immersed in the salsa and neighborhood spirit.

There are twelve years of making the dignity of our bodies, our memories and our rhythms felt in the public space, since it was we who brought salsa brava to the streets here in Madrid, it became common in the Campo de Cebada or in the first clandestine meetings back in 2012, in broad daylight. We redefined the view of music that was no longer fashionable and that was heard only in nightclubs and nightclubs, and through that we contributed to transforming the view of a growing migrant community, as an anti-racist action that transcends the word, because the speech is already in the body exposed, connected, alive and vibrant.

Today there is more salsa than fish and our hearts beat in the key of the Congo drum. Some squares are already filled every day with communities vibrating with different rhythms of the Caribbean, with bodies exposed in their sensuality and sexuality, triggering contact dances, and narrating with dance and rhythm new stories, new presents and new imaginaries that continue to be interwoven. from everyday life, to vindicate our search for memory.

Our place in the city, our identity is still in historical construction because we are always a different beginning, we are the grieving present of many generations that have begun to leave and the present of many generations that are just being born. We are the present of the utilitarian “democracies” that serve to calm, “include” and manipulate, but not to stop – because they do not want to – the genocide of Palestine, inequality, extractivism, war and vanity. For this reason, they will not serve – because we will not stop – to stop this carefree dance of resistance, memory and dreams. 12 years to live, celebrate and enjoy pain and memory with flavor!

Happy Anniversary.
