It’s been rumored for some time that Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage might reprise his Spider-Man Noir character from Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse in the upcoming live-action series for Prime Video. But will it actually happen? Cage confirmed to Collider that conversations are underway for him to come back.

“Well, I can say that we have been talking. It’s no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another mash-up of sorts. I can combine my favorite golden age performances, ie Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee’s masterpiece,” Cage said. “I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash-up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash-up by way of Bogart and Cagney, but nothing’s definitive yet. It’s just conversation.”

As Cage said, it’s “just conversation” right now, and this sort of thing is typical in Hollywood. Nothing is official until contracts are signed, but this seems to be a positive development for those who want to see Cage play Spider-Man Noir.

Variety reported in 2023 that the untitled Spider-Man Noir series will “follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City.” A source told the site that the series would be set in its “own universe” and that the main character is not Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Cage portrayed Spider-Man Noir for Into the Spider-Verse, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The sequel Into the Spider-Verse was released in 2023 and was nominated for Best Animated Feature, but it ultimately lost to The Boy and the Heron.
