The voting centers opened their doors this Sunday in The Savior for the holding of the presidential and legislative elections, in which the current president, Nayib Bukeleis seeking re-election for a second consecutive term and appears as a great favorite.
There are a total of 1,595 centers organized in different parts of the country and in which some 24,000 law enforcement agents have been deployed. National Police and more than 3,000 national and foreign observers.
The places were scheduled to begin receiving voters at 07:00 local time (13:00 GMT), but in some centers the opening was delayed by several minutes.
According to authorities of the Police and the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), there are no mishaps and it is expected that the election day, which lasts 10 hours, will take place calmly.
The president of the TSE, Dora Martinezassured during a national radio and television network that “institutionally we are ready, with all the necessary conditions to receive the electorate”.
The more than 5.5 million Salvadorans called to vote must choose their next president from a shortlist of six political parties, including the ruling party. New ideas (NI), of Bukele, who is seeking re-election that according to polls he would obtain.
